The first book is framed as Gideon recounting what happened while under government interrogation, giving the story a tense, urgent feel.

In Riders, Gideon and Daryn travel to find the remaining Horsemen and confront the Kindred, demonic forces working toward catastrophe. The group is thrown together before anyone is fully ready, so the action is driven by arguments, uneasy teamwork, and the hard work of learning what each person can do. Seeker shifts the focus to Daryn. Her visions have stopped at the moment she needs them most, and she must lead the Riders into a dangerous realm to rescue Sebastian and face the consequences of an earlier decision. The second book puts more weight on Daryn's guilt, instincts, and growing responsibility to the people who trust her.
