Iced returns to the world through Kira, another survivor of the shipwreck. Kira finds temporary safety among the Fire Valos, but her altered body cannot tolerate their heat. Her journey toward the frozen city of E'Lek brings her into contact with Duke, a cold-adapted Valos who is suspicious of her connection to humans and to the mysterious Creators.
