Series background & context
In The Mist, the world changes for three days every month. A thick supernatural fog rolls in, filled with demonic creatures and danger, and ordinary people learn to barricade themselves indoors until it passes. That recurring threat gives the series a tense, eerie rhythm from the start.
Then something gets inside.
The Mistwalker follows Jade, whose sister's mistake lets a Mistwalker into their home. Part of the creature becomes linked to Jade, leaving a mark on her body and a presence in her life that she cannot easily understand. The bond terrifies her, especially because it threatens the careful future she has tried to build.
The Mistwalker has his own view of the connection. He has waited in the other world for a chance to reach Jade, and he sees her as his mate. The romance therefore begins with fear, mystery, and a huge imbalance in what each character knows. Jade has to find out what the Mist is, what the torn boundary means, and whether the being connected to her is truly a danger.
The follow-up, The Nightmare, continues the supernatural world and its sense that the veil between realms is unstable. The series has a darker paranormal feel than Abel's space romances, with creatures, magic, and recurring threats woven directly into the love stories.
Start with The Mistwalker. It introduces the fog, the mortal world, and the dangerous bond at the heart of the series. Choose these books if you enjoy eerie settings, possessive supernatural heroes, and heroines who must face the frightening thing that has chosen them.
