Series background & context

The Trouble in Tumbleweed Mysteries are connected novellas set in the West Texas town of Tumbleweed. Different authors contribute stories to the shared setting, so the books offer several points of view while returning to the same dusty streets, local businesses, and residents who know far too much about one another.

Melissa Bourbon Ramirez's entries bring her usual mix of humor, community ties, and amateur sleuthing to the town. Her stories are connected to Hope McIntyre, editor of the local paper, whose work puts her near every rumor, odd incident, and public scandal Tumbleweed has to offer.

A small town is excellent at keeping secrets. Until it isn't.

In The Trouble with Hope and Glory, Hope becomes part of the larger Tumbleweed world, where the ordinary business of local life can quickly turn suspicious. The novella format keeps the action moving, but the town itself has enough recurring personalities and history to make it feel like a familiar place.

The Trouble with Pushing Up Daisies begins with a string of women who have been ghosted by the same charming man. Hope starts investigating the dating pattern for Tumbleweed Today, only to find the man dead. Suddenly, every disappointed date has a possible motive, and Hope must sort out heartbreak, gossip, and evidence before the wrong person gets blamed.

The tone is light and cozy, with West Texas flavor and a clear interest in how people behave when romance, pride, and reputation get tangled together. These are not giant conspiracy stories. The stakes come from relationships and the fact that a murder in a small town touches everybody.

Readers can begin with either novella, since each contains its own case. Starting with The Trouble with Hope and Glory gives a little more time with Hope and Tumbleweed before The Trouble with Pushing Up Daisies turns online dating into a local homicide investigation.
