Author bio
Tricia Goyer grew up in Northern California and became a mother while still a teenager. Those early years shaped much of what she would later write about: family life, faith, hard choices, second chances, and the practical work of raising children.
She did not set out with a childhood plan to become an author. In 1994, at 22 and pregnant with her third child, Goyer was talking with a friend in a church nursery when the possibility of writing Christian books clicked into place. She attended a writers conference at Mount Hermon, kept learning, and stayed with the work even when a writing career took longer to arrive than she expected.
That persistence became the foundation of a very wide-ranging bibliography.
Goyer writes fiction and nonfiction, often moving between historical novels, Amish romance, parenting books, devotionals, and books for children and teens. Her nonfiction is usually direct and practical. Books such as Teen Mom, Life Interrupted, Balanced, and The Grumble-Free Year draw on the everyday pressures of parenting, home life, gratitude, and starting again after a difficult season.
Her fiction often begins with a woman facing a big change. In the Big Sky novels, Amish characters build new lives in Montana while dealing with family expectations, faith, and romance. Beside Still Waters introduces Marianna Sommer, whose move from Indiana changes the future she thought she wanted. The later West Kootenai stories, including The Memory Jar and The Promise Box, return to that Montana community.
History is another major part of her work.
Goyer has written several novels set around World War II and the years leading into it. From Dust and Ashes, Night Song, Dawn of a Thousand Nights, The Swiss Courier, and Chasing Mona Lisa place ordinary people inside dangerous moments of war, occupation, espionage, and rescue. She has said that researching wartime stories became important to her after a trip to Europe, including a visit to Mauthausen.
The books tend to balance suspense with personal stakes. Characters are often separated from home, carrying guilt or grief, or trying to protect someone vulnerable. Romance matters, but so do questions of courage, belonging, and what people owe one another when events become frightening.
Goyer also writes with and for her family. She has co-written the Pinecraft Pie Shop novels with Sherry Gore, the Clockwork Chronicles with her son Nathan, and Praying for Your Future Husband with Robin Jones Gunn. Her work with Nathan grew out of years of homeschooling, reading aloud, and enjoying imaginative stories together.
Today, Goyer lives in Little Rock, Arkansas, with her husband John. She is a mother of ten, including children adopted into the family, and a grandmother. Along with writing, she speaks, podcasts, and encourages parents, homeschool families, and young mothers. Her books come from a busy life, but they usually make room for the small things too: a meal, a family conversation, a letter kept in a box, a garden, or the chance to try again.
