Author bio

Trevor Scott was born in Duluth, Minnesota, and grew up near the western tip of Lake Superior. That north-country background stayed with him. Even when his books move through Europe, Asia, or the Middle East, he often writes like someone who knows small towns, hard weather, and people who don't talk more than they have to.

Before he became a novelist, he spent years in uniform.

Scott served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation weapons specialist on aircraft carriers, then in the U.S. Air Force, where he worked in tactical missile units during the Cold War and the first Gulf War, eventually retiring as a captain. He later earned degrees from the University of Minnesota Duluth and Northern Michigan University, and also worked as a newspaper writer and editor, along with a stint in college public relations.

That path into fiction makes a lot of sense once you pick up the books. His thrillers tend to move fast, but they also feel lived in. He knows how military systems work, how chain of command shapes decisions, and how travel can wear a person down even when the scenery is spectacular.

His writing career began with The Company of Thieves in 1994, but Fatal Network really set the template readers now know him for. That book introduced Jake Adams, a former Air Force intelligence officer and CIA man, and Scott kept building from there in books like Extreme Faction, The Dolomite Solution, and Cold Enemies. Later he expanded into more regional mysteries and spinoffs, including The Man from Murmansk, Boom Town, Isolated, and Vegas Murder Mystery.

He doesn't stay in one lane for long.

Some readers come to Scott for the international spy novels. Others prefer the Oregon and Nevada mysteries, where former sheriffs, private investigators, and military veterans work smaller cases with just as much pressure. Across both sides of his catalog, you see the same interests show up again and again, loyalty, betrayal, competence under stress, and the trouble caused when institutions fail the people inside them.

Travel matters in his books, too. Scott has said he has traveled widely, and that globe-spanning experience shows. His stories move easily from Germany and Russia to Italy, Iceland, Montana, Oregon, and beyond, but they rarely feel like postcards. The places usually matter because they shape the danger.

In recent years, he has lived in Nevada, and earlier author bios also place him in Oregon with his wife and sons. However you arrive at his work, that mix of military experience, wide travel, and regional roots is what gives the books their particular feel. They are direct, restless, and built by someone who clearly likes putting capable people into very bad situations.
