Karl Adams steps into the spy world with a lot to live up to. He is the son of Jake Adams, but these books are not just a handoff from one hero to the next. Karl has his own style, his own risks, and a very different generation of intelligence work to survive.

In The Man from Murmansk, Karl is already undercover in Russia, posing as a student while watching for treaty-breaking military moves. That opening tells you almost everything you need to know about the series. These are deep-cover books. Identity matters. Surveillance matters. One bad move can collapse not only a mission but an entire geopolitical balance.

The Russia setting is a big part of the atmosphere. Murmansk, Moscow, Siberia, and the wider post-Cold War security world give the series a colder, tenser edge than a lot of modern spy fiction. Karl is often working in places where institutions lie as a matter of habit and where trust is never cheap. Later books push him even deeper into that pressure, especially as cover stories harden and loyalties get harder to read.
