Author bio

Traci Hunter Abramson grew up in Arizona, where books and swimming were steady parts of her childhood. As a teenager she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, a choice that would later shape both the values and the characters in her stories.

In college she headed to Utah to study business at Brigham Young University and spent time in Venezuela on a study abroad program. Finance and international business may not sound like a direct path to writing thrillers, but those years gave her a feel for numbers, people, and how organizations actually work.

After graduation she took a job many readers only see in fiction. For six years she worked for the Central Intelligence Agency as a finance officer. The job was not about car chases or disguises, but it did put her close to real operations, real risks, and the quiet professionals who carry them out. That inside view of bureaucracy, security rules, and small daily stresses shows up again and again in her books.

When she left the agency in the mid 1990s, she traded classified spreadsheets for carpools and swim practices.

Living in Stafford, Virginia, she began coaching the North Stafford High School swim team, a role she kept for more than twenty seasons. Around the same time she started to write. Her first novel, Undercurrents, grew directly out of what she knew best at the time, an Olympic hopeful swimmer in witness protection whose new life is never as safe as it looks. The Virginia Tech shooting later pushed her to write Lockdown, a story about a woman who survives a school shooting and has to find a way to live with the aftermath.

Over the years she has built an interconnected web of series. The Saint Squad books follow a close knit team of Latter day Saint Navy SEALs through deployments, courtships, marriages, and the long tail of trauma and healing. The Guardian novels focus on a shadow program that quietly protects high level officials and agents in the field. The Royals series moves to a fictional Mediterranean kingdom where CIA officers and princes collide. Dream's Edge shifts to Cold War era skating and hockey, while the Falcon Point books blend World War II history with modern treasure hunting. Newer series like Luke Steele and Pen and Dagger lean into political and espionage plots set in and around Washington, DC.

Her work has been recognized with multiple Whitney Awards for mystery and suspense, including honors for Code Word, Deep Cover, and Failsafe, along with a novel of the year win for Safe House. Reviewers often point to her careful research and to the way her characters juggle jobs, family, faith, and fear rather than living in a vacuum.

Today Abramson still lives in Virginia with her husband and their five children. She has retired from high school coaching but keeps a busy schedule of writing, travel, and teaching at conferences. On the page, her stories may involve terrorists, monarchies, and covert programs, but they almost always turn on small human choices, who to trust, when to speak up, and how to hold on to hope when the stakes feel impossibly high.
