Novel Threat

by Traci Hunter Abramson

2025

CIA case officer Brandon Hale is ready to trade spy work for a quiet job in publishing, until a murdered source points to a New York house being used by terrorists. Going undercover there, he crosses paths with Kimber Seidel, a CIA finance officer and aspiring novelist, and together they must decode a deadly plot buried in manuscripts.

Series background & context

CIA Operative Suspense gathers together Abramson’s standalone and loosely linked novels that focus on intelligence officers, analysts, and the civilians who get pulled into their orbit. These books share a world with Saint Squad and Guardian, but they tend to follow one main couple through a single intense operation rather than a long running team.

In Deep Cover, for example, Kelsey Weber has spent two years embedded in the compound of a violent extremist leader. When her cover is blown and she is evacuated back to the United States, she suddenly has to pretend to be an ordinary woman living in her parents’ vacant Virginia home. Her new neighbor is FBI agent Noah Cabbott, who has questions of his own. Their separate investigations twist together into a race to stop a terrorist attack and unmask a traitor inside the agency.

Other titles explore different slices of this world. Proximity starts as a long distance romance and slowly slides into danger when seemingly minor threats turn into something more sinister. Mistaken Reality puts a third grade teacher in the wrong place at the wrong time when a hotel bombing leads the FBI to suspect her ex boyfriend of far more than bad manners. A Change of Fortune shifts gears into a contemporary romance wrapped around a family crisis and an unexpected windfall that may not be a blessing at all.

What these books have in common is the feeling that danger is never quite as far away as it seems. Characters fall in love while decrypting data, dodging bullets, or simply trying to get through medical treatments and everyday jobs. Church callings, family dinners, and small talk at the office coexist with surveillance work and split second decisions.

Because the novels are only lightly connected, readers can dip into this group wherever the premise appeals most. At the same time, anyone reading broadly across Abramson’s bibliography will spot familiar names and references, small nods that reward paying attention without confusing newcomers.
