Author bio
Thomas Fincham is the pen name of Mobashar Qureshi, a Canadian writer of mysteries, thrillers, crime novels, and a few strange, supernatural turns. He was born in Benin City, Nigeria, in 1978. As a child, he also lived for a short time in Karachi, Pakistan, before his family settled in Canada.
That mix of places stayed with him. Fincham has said his travels and time in Africa, Asia, and North America helped shape his interest in people, beliefs, and the ways cultures rub up against each other. He later studied economics at the University of Toronto, a path that sounds tidy enough until you look at the body count in his books.
Mysteries were the hook.
He grew up reading crime and suspense, then decided to try writing his own. Under his Mobashar Qureshi name, he published early work such as The October Five, while the material behind The Blue Hornet brought in Jon Rupret, a parking officer pulled into a dangerous operation in Toronto. The Paperboys Club showed another side of his fiction, mixing a police case with paranormal danger.
Then the series work began to pile up.
As Thomas Fincham, he became best known for connected thriller series with clear hooks and fast chapters. The Lee Callaway books follow a private investigator whose cases often tangle with family wounds, missing people, and murder investigations. The Hyder Ali books center on a Muslim-American reporter at the Daily Times who chases stories that can turn personal fast. Echo Rose begins with Grace Kelly Sanderson using an alias to step into danger, while Martin Rhodes follows a former detective with prison in his past and trouble never far behind.
Fincham also created FBI agent Jo Pullinger, whose life is shadowed by a heart transplant from a serial killer, and Ronan Carver, a former Navy SEAL built for roaming, rescue, and bad odds. Across the books, he tends to come back to the same rough territory: old secrets, damaged families, flawed investigators, corruption, and ordinary people who get dragged into very unordinary cases.
He is married, has two children, and lives in a hundred-year-old house in Toronto. That last detail feels right for a mystery writer. Old houses always seem to know more than they say.
