There's Something About Marysburg is a set of contemporary romances connected by the Virginia town of Marysburg and by adults whose work, friendships, and old hurts have followed them well past their twenties. Teachers and librarians appear often, along with the practical problems of schools, careers, family expectations, and finding room for love when life already feels crowded.

The first novel, Teach Me, takes place over a school year at Marysburg High. Rose Owens is a guarded history teacher who has lost the classes she loves to new colleague Martin Krause. Their professional tension starts out sharp, but the book gradually reveals two people carrying difficult histories and learning how to trust kindness when it is offered.

40-Love moves away from the classroom for a vacation romance between Tess Dunn, a forty-year-old assistant principal, and Lucas Karlsson, a former tennis professional who now teaches at a resort. Their time together has an expiration date, and the age gap, past disappointments, and separate lives make an easy fling feel much less simple.

The third entry, Sweetest in the Gale, is a story collection rather than a single novel. Its new title story follows Marysburg High colleagues Candy Albright and Griff Conover as they work together after a difficult summer. The collection also includes “Unraveled,” about two teachers forced into a close working partnership, and “Cover Me,” a friends-to-lovers story centered on a marriage of convenience prompted by a health crisis.

The collection works best after the first two books because it returns to the town's wider network.
