Series background & context

The Lovestruck Librarians series is a connected set of contemporary romances centered on the Nice County Library System and the people who work in and around it. These books take librarians seriously as working adults with schedules, budgets, public programs, difficult bosses, loyal friends, and romantic lives that do not always fit neatly between opening and closing hours.

The series begins with a New Year's Eve prequel, then moves through seasonal stories and novels featuring different members of the library community. The books in this guide include My Reckless Valentine, Mayday, Driven to Distraction, and Hidden Hearts. Each follows a different couple, while friends and coworkers reappear across the series.

The library is the connection point, not just a backdrop.

In My Reckless Valentine, outspoken librarian Angela Burrowes has a memorable night with a stranger, then learns he is Grant Peterson, her new supervisor. Mayday pairs librarian Helen Murphy with Wes Ramirez, the ambitious mayor she would rather avoid after an embarrassing one-hour stand. Both stories use public work responsibilities to keep the characters in each other's orbit.

Driven to Distraction follows Constance Chen, the tough, independent librarian who drives the bookmobile, and Sam Wolcott, the library's IT specialist and her friend's younger brother. Their bickering and opposing ideas about commitment become harder to maintain when they are stuck together in a very small space. In Hidden Hearts, rule-following librarian Mary Higgs develops a close online bond with Miles O'Connor, a former television star living as a fearful recluse after an accident.

The tone is warm, sexy, and funny, with plenty of workplace chaos and a strong friend group. The series also makes room for anxiety, old family pain, illness, identity, and the ways people can isolate themselves when they are afraid of being hurt. The romances do not pretend that a grand gesture solves everything. Characters still have to talk, change, and show up for each other.

The stories work as standalones, but reading in order lets the friendships build and makes later appearances feel more rewarding. Start with My Reckless Valentine if you want the main library world right away, then continue through the connected books for more of the Nice County crew.
