Author bio
Olivia Dade grew up as the kind of reader who could disappear into a book and forget the rest of the room existed. Romance was always the favorite. As a child, she also discovered the novels her mother kept tucked away, which gave her an early, bewildered introduction to pirates, passion, and the strange language of old-school love stories.
That curiosity stuck.
Dade graduated from Wake Forest University and later earned an M.A. in American history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before writing fiction full-time, she worked a string of jobs that all required a more restrained public face than her books might suggest. She was a costumed interpreter at Colonial Williamsburg, a high school teacher, an academic tutor, and a librarian.
Those jobs show up in her fiction in useful ways. Her characters have work to do, bills to pay, classrooms to manage, library systems to keep running, and ordinary worries that do not vanish just because romance arrives. Dade often builds a funny premise around people who are trying to get through a difficult week, a complicated job, or an awkward public situation without making a bigger mess of their lives.
Her early books include the Lovestruck Librarians stories, beginning with My Reckless Valentine, and the teacher-centered Marysburg books, including Teach Me and 40-Love. These romances make room for smart, stubborn adults, strong friendships, workplace problems, and plenty of banter. They also tend to give their characters time to be messy, scared, or wrong before they find a better way forward.
Then came a wider audience with Spoiler Alert, a contemporary romance about fandom, cosplay, fanfiction, and a television star with a secret online life. The connected novels All the Feels and Ship Wrecked stay in that world of actors, devoted fans, and behind-the-scenes chaos. Readers who like celebrity stories with real emotional stakes will find a lot to enjoy there.
Dade's more recent books keep expanding the map. At First Spite heads to the oddball Maryland town of Harlot's Bay, where an abandoned engagement leaves a woman living in a very narrow spite house between two brothers. Zomromcom takes a sharp turn into paranormal territory, pairing zombies, a vampire, a conspiracy, and a woman who refuses to sit safely on the sidelines.
Her books are funny, frank, and deeply interested in people who have been underestimated, whether by family, work, old relationships, or themselves. Body acceptance, anxiety, grief, friendship, second chances, and the right to want a full life all come up often, but the stories never forget the jokes.
Dade writes contemporary romantic comedies under her own name and futuristic romance as Olivia Dart. She lives outside Stockholm with her family and an ever-growing collection of books. Pajamas, she has noted, are one of the perks of the job.
