The official comparison, a mix of glossy friend-group drama and coming-of-age romance, is a fair one. These books care about ambition, music, fame, secret relationships, reality-TV temptation, and the way a close circle can become both home and battlefield at the same time. Everybody knows too much about everybody else, which means no choice stays private for long.

Yearn sets the table by introducing the group and the emotional weather around RED. Crave drills into an off-limits relationship between Adam and Landon while music and career pressure pull them in different directions. Covet shifts toward Elle and Noah, where longtime friendship, serious partners, and creative intimacy make all the boundaries harder to hold. The planned structure feels more serial than many of Probst's other works, so the books are best read in order.

That reading order really matters here. This is not just because characters recur. It is because the group dynamic is part of the story. Betrayals, side glances, loyalties, and secrets carry forward. One book's fallout becomes the next book's starting point.

The tone is also more angsty than in series like Sunshine Sisters or Stay. The characters are younger adults still figuring out who they are, which means their choices can be impulsive, emotional, and occasionally spectacularly bad. That is part of the design. These books are not trying to give you polished adults who have everything under control. They are about the period when desire, friendship, ego, and opportunity all arrive at once.

Even with that heightened drama, Probst is still doing what she usually does well, writing attraction with urgency and pushing characters toward emotional truth. The difference is that The Red series lets the truth come out in a louder, messier room.

If you like ensemble romance, Manhattan nightlife, music-world complications, and stories where the friend group is almost as important as the couple, this is probably the most distinctive branch of her catalog.
