Author bio
Jennifer Probst has been writing love stories for a very long time. She wrote her first one at twelve, tucked it into a folder, read it to her classmates, and never really let go of the idea that this was what she wanted to do.
She took a winding road getting there. Probst earned a business degree, later completed a master's in English literature, and worked a string of jobs before writing became her full-time life. Over the years she has talked about trying on all kinds of roles, from travel agent to yoga teacher to dating coordinator and insurance salesperson. That mix of practical work and big imagination shows up all through her books.
Her overnight success took about twenty years.
One of the real turning points came when she joined Romance Writers of America and found support in her local Hudson Valley chapter. The critique sessions helped her sharpen her work, cut the extra fluff, and turn raw drafts into publishable stories. Probst is pretty open about the fact that the process was slow, and that she learned by sticking with it.
That persistence paid off in a big way when The Marriage Bargain broke out and spent twenty-six weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. From there, she built a large contemporary romance catalog that includes the Marriage to a Billionaire, Searching For, Billionaire Builders, Stay, and Sunshine Sisters books. Her work has been translated in more than a dozen countries, and her books have sold more than two million copies.
A lot of readers come to Probst for the big romance hooks: marriages of convenience, fake dates, second chances, wealthy heroes, and heroines who know they deserve respect. But there is usually a warm center under the steam. Even in her sexier books, she likes emotional honesty, family pressure, messy vulnerability, and people who have to grow up a little before they can get their happy ending.
She also doesn't stay in one lane.
Books like Searching for Someday and The Start of Something Good lean into small-town charm, found family, and community. Later novels such as Our Italian Summer and The Secret Love Letters of Olivia Moretti move more clearly into women's fiction, with sisters, mothers, daughters, grief, travel, and the complicated pull of family history. And in Write Naked and Write True, she turns toward fellow writers and shares the craft lessons she picked up the hard way.
Italy keeps showing up for a reason.
Probst has written about growing up in an Italian family and listening to stories from her grandmother about food, language, and home. That thread runs through a lot of her fiction, especially the books set in Milan, along the Amalfi Coast, and across Sicily and Tuscany. She also loves mountains, horse racing, Scrabble, Italian food and wine, rescue dogs, and what she jokingly calls shameful reality television.
Her own love story sounds like something she might have put in a novel. She has said that when her future husband first asked her out, he promised to buy her book if she would let him buy her dinner. They fell in love over sushi, married, and built a family together. These days she lives in New York's Hudson Valley with her husband and two sons, still writing stories about attraction, hope, and the risky business of opening your heart.
