by Tiffany Reisz

2010

Series background & context

The Original Sinners Pulp Editions gather many of the novellas and short novels that orbit the main series into slim, retro styled volumes. Think of them as the B-sides and bonus tracks of Nora, Kingsley, and company, each one focused on a single episode, client, or side character.

Some entries go deeper with fan favorites. The Gift and The Auction follow grieving Dominant Daniel and the submissives who shake him out of self imposed isolation. The Last Good Knight gives Nora a rare taste of chivalry with Lance, the Navy SEAL who walks into the 8th Circle one night and upends her carefully controlled emotions.

The Mistress Files reads like the kink club's secret training manual, as Nora writes up case studies on rock stars, switches, and nervous married couples for Kingsley's stable of dominants. Holiday pieces like Mischief, A Winter Symphony, A Midwinter Night's Dream, and A Wolfe in Winter show what happens when the Sinners collide with Christmas trees, New Orleans carols, and snowbound hotels.

Other Pulp titles, such as Little Red Riding Crop, Seize the Night, and the paired volume Immersed in Pleasure / Submit to Desire, stretch beyond the core trio to tell lush, self contained stories about mermaids in exclusive clubs, feuding horse racing families, and women who finally decide to see how far their fantasies can go.

You do not have to read every Pulp Edition to follow the main narrative, and most of them can be picked up on their own once you have met Nora in The Siren. They reward longtime readers with extra context and cameos, but they are also designed to stand alone as quick, dirty, highly focused character studies.

If the big novels are epics, the Pulp Editions are intimate snapshots. The tone is still frank, funny, and kinky, but the stakes tend to be smaller and more personal, centered on a single decision, a holiday, or a night that changes everything.
