The Marriage Managing Society Books in Order

The Marriage Managing Society looks like Eva Devon having a particularly good time with meddling. The setup, at least from the opening books, suggests a world where matchmaking is not left to mamas and chance meetings alone. Instead, odd hands are clearly nudging the ton toward the partners it most needs, whether those people are ready or not.

That gives the series a lighter, more openly comic frame than some of Devon's darker lines. The titles alone, What a Charming Duke and What a Cheeky Earl, promise wit, personality, and at least a little chaos. But Devon being Devon, the humor is usually paired with characters who still want something real beneath the banter.

The second book makes that balance especially clear.

In What a Cheeky Earl, the Earl of Seaborough looks large and easy to read at first glance, but the romance quickly becomes about performance versus truth. Ernestine Foxly wants escape, quiet, and a future on her own terms. He wants her. The tension comes from whether desire can make room for the life she has already imagined.

That is a very Devon question. Her heroines may fall in love, but they rarely stop being themselves in the process. The heroes have to meet them where they are.

So while this series is playful, it does not feel weightless. Expect sparkling setups, matchmaking interference, strong heroines, and titled men who discover that charm alone is not enough. If you like your Regency romance breezy on the surface and emotionally sincere underneath, this looks like a very promising corner of her bibliography.
