Series background & context

This is one of Mimi Jean Pamfiloff's darker worlds. The series begins with Mia Turner searching for her missing brother in Mexico and getting pulled into the orbit of King, a rich, terrifying man who seems human until he very clearly is not. From there, the story opens into ancient curses, hidden bloodlines, myth-heavy fantasy, and a romance that is never simple for more than five minutes.

The first three books, King's, King for a Day, and King of Me, make up the core Mia and King arc. They read like one long story broken into stages, so they are best read in order. After that, the series expands instead of ending. Mack, The Ten Club, The Dead King, Lord King, Never King's, and Draco keep building on the same world while shifting attention to other damaged, dangerous people caught in King's wake.

Nobody in this series is simple.

That is a big part of the appeal. King is part antihero, part curse, part force of nature. The later books keep that same energy, with guilt, obsession, reincarnation, old magic, and morally gray choices pushing the story forward. The romance matters, but so do the secrets underneath it.

If you like your fantasy romance heavier on tension, mystery, and emotional whiplash, this is the series to reach for. It has ancient-world scale hiding inside modern settings, and it never asks its characters to take the easy road.
