Series background & context
The Immortals is Alyson Noël's paranormal romance series about Ever Bloom, a teenager whose life changes after a car accident kills her parents, younger sister Riley, and dog. Ever survives, but she returns to high school carrying abilities she cannot control. She sees auras, hears thoughts, and learns a person's history when she touches them. Trying to avoid all that noise leaves her isolated at her new Laguna Beach school.
Then she meets Damen Auguste.
Damen is calm, beautiful, mysterious, and somehow able to quiet the chaos in Ever's mind. He also seems to know far more about Ever than a new classmate should. Their relationship pulls her into a hidden world of immortals, reincarnation, psychic energy, and old grudges that have followed them through more than one lifetime.
The first book, Evermore, sets up Ever's grief, her new powers, and her immediate pull toward Damen. From there, Blue Moon, Shadowland, Dark Flame, Night Star, and Everlasting keep raising the cost of their connection. Ever wants a future with Damen, but curses, enemies, divided loyalties, and the consequences of past choices keep getting in the way.
It is a big-feelings series. Romance is central, but so are loss, friendship, jealousy, and the temptation to use magic as a shortcut. Ever is often forced to choose between what she wants right now and what might protect the people she loves. Her best friends, Miles and Stacia, bring some everyday school life into a story that can otherwise move between California, mystical realms, and memories of earlier lives.
The setting matters. Laguna Beach gives the books a sunny, coastal surface, while Summerland and the Shadowland bring in stranger, darker places beyond ordinary life. Noël uses that contrast well: one moment Ever is dealing with school gossip, the next she is facing questions about death, fate, and eternity.
Readers should start with Evermore and continue in publication order. Each novel builds on the last, especially the shifting relationships, magical rules, and long-running conflict around Ever and Damen. The companion Riley Bloom series follows Ever's younger sister in the afterlife, but it works best after readers have met Riley's family story here.
Expect dramatic romance, psychic powers, supernatural rivalries, and plenty of cliffhanger energy.
