Riley Bloom Books in Order

Alyson Noël's Riley Bloom series is a younger spin-off from The Immortals. It follows Riley Bloom, Ever Bloom's outspoken little sister, after Riley dies in the same car accident that changes Ever's life. Riley has crossed into the afterlife, but she is not interested in quietly sitting around and being patient.

Death, it turns out, comes with homework.

Riley, her dog Buttercup, and her parents are living in Here, an afterlife where time is always Now. Just when she expects a peaceful new existence, the Council gives her a job. Riley must become a Soul Catcher, helping troubled spirits who are stuck on Earth move on. Her mentor is Bodhi, a mysterious boy who knows far more about the job than Riley does.

The books are built around individual missions, but Riley's growth carries through all four. In Radiance, her first assignment takes her to an English castle and a ghost who has resisted every other Soul Catcher. Shimmer sends Riley into the painful history surrounding a young ghost trapped in anger. Dreamland explores the world where dreams are made and introduces a nightmare-making spirit. In Whisper, Riley faces her most intimidating mission yet, a Roman gladiator known as the Pillar of Doom.

Riley is impulsive, funny, stubborn, and eager to prove she is not just the little sister people remember. She wants to be useful, but she sometimes confuses confidence with readiness. Bodhi provides a steady counterweight, while Buttercup is along for the adventure in his own dog-shaped way.

The afterlife setting gives the series room for castles, dream studios, ancient Rome, ghosts, and magical rules, but the emotional center stays simple. Riley has to learn empathy. A spirit who seems frightening or difficult often has a reason for being unable to let go, and Riley's job depends on seeing beyond first impressions.

These books have a lighter, younger feel than The Immortals, though they still deal with loss, fear, forgiveness, and family. Readers do not need to know every detail of Ever's story, but reading Evermore first gives Riley's background more meaning.

Start with Radiance and follow the missions in order. Each book gives Riley a new challenge while showing her slowly grow into the work she did not choose but may be exactly right for.
