Series background & context
The Haunted begins with Robert Watts hitting bottom. He loses his job, learns his wife has betrayed him, and is left trying to hold life together for his young daughter, Amy. Then a strange inheritance offer lands in his lap and pulls them both toward Harlop Estate, a place that looks like salvation until it starts proving otherwise.
From there, the series opens outward.
What starts as one haunted house story becomes a larger supernatural adventure involving Robert, his allies Cal, Shelly, and Allan, and a series of locations that all come with their own dead, their own histories, and their own traps. An abandoned hospital ward. A prison on an isolated island. A crematorium. An orphanage. The books keep changing the scenery, but the mood stays rooted in dread, grief, and the sense that the living are only half the problem.
One of the strengths of the series is that Robert is not a fearless ghost hunter. He is a regular man who keeps getting dragged deeper into things he did not ask for, while still trying to be a decent father. That gives the horror a grounded center. The stakes are supernatural, but they still feel personal.
There is also an ongoing mythology underneath the individual scares. The hauntings are connected to older secrets, family history, and a bigger pattern that Robert slowly starts to understand. So even though each book has its own setting and immediate threat, the series rewards being read in order.
If you want fast supernatural horror with strong location work and a bit of found-family energy among the survivors, The Haunted is an easy Logan series to recommend.
