Series background & context
Chase Adams is one of Patrick Logan's main thriller leads, and the series throws her into the deep end right away. She comes into the FBI after earlier work in law enforcement, which gives her a tougher edge than the word rookie suggests. She is capable, stubborn, and not always easy to like. That is part of the design.
These books run on high-pressure cases. Serial murders, child abductions, missing people, conspiracy, tech-enabled crime, and investigations that keep spilling past state lines. Early entries feel closest to straight FBI and police thrillers, but the series gradually opens out into broader plots involving political power, personal history, and the kind of evidence that makes everyone doubt what is real.
Chase is not doing this in a vacuum.
One of the interesting things about the series is how connected it is to Logan's wider thriller world. Damien Drake and Dr. Beckett Campbell both cross paths with Chase, and later books deepen the supporting cast around her as well. If you like a shared universe, there is a lot to enjoy here without needing charts on the wall.
The emotional core, though, is Chase herself. She carries old wounds, makes hard calls, and keeps going even when a case hits her family or her past. Logan does not sand off those rough spots. He lets her be sharp, messy, and sometimes difficult, which gives the books more bite than a cleaner hero would.
If you want a long-running FBI series that starts with serial-killer suspense and grows into bigger, stranger, more interconnected territory, Chase Adams is a solid entry point.
