Elfin

2012
Cassie Tate’s biggest worries used to be school and Halloween costumes, until she glimpses an elf in his true form and earns a death sentence. Triktapic, the dark elf assassin sent to kill her, recognizes her as his Chosen instead, and their forbidden connection throws them into the middle of a centuries-long war between light and dark elves.
Series background & context
The Elfin series shifts the action from wolves to elves, but keeps the same mix of humor, romance, and high stakes that runs through Quinn Loftis’s other books. It begins with Cassie Tate, a suburban teenager whose biggest worries are algebra and Halloween costumes until she sees something no human is supposed to see, an elf in his true form.
That elf is Triktapic, known as Trik, a deadly assassin in service to the dark elf king. He has spent centuries doing whatever his ruler asked, wiping out enemies without hesitation. When his path crosses Cassie’s in the human world, he expects an easy kill to protect elfin secrecy. Instead he discovers that Cassie is his Chosen, the one person who can anchor the light that still lives inside him.
Across the trilogy, Cassie is drawn into an ancient war between light and dark elves that has finally spilled over into the human realm. The dark king, Lorsan, wants to expand his power by enslaving humans through a drug called Rapture, a glittering drink that is beautiful on the surface and deadly underneath. Elfin courts, human cities, and hidden realms all become part of a larger battlefield.
Cassie does not fight alone. Her sharp tongued best friend Elora, Elora’s mother Lisa, and a small band of light elves risk their lives to rescue captured friends and sabotage the dark elves’ plans. Later books shift more of the spotlight to Elora and her own complicated feelings about war, love, and what it means to stand between worlds.
Readers who like morally conflicted heroes will find a lot to enjoy in Trik. He is dangerous and deeply flawed, but pulled toward change by Cassie’s stubborn belief that he can be more than a weapon. The series asks real questions about trust, forgiveness, and whether love can overcome a violent past without pretending the answers are simple.
Throughout, the Elfin books keep the tone fast and vivid rather than grim. Banter between friends, awkward romantic moments, and flashes of everyday teen life sit next to battles, dark magic, and the threat of the human world being overrun. It is a good fit if you want elves, assassins, and world shaking stakes wrapped around a central love story.
