The final book, The Duke Has Done It Again, brings old rivals Rose Denholme and Gavin Keighley together when their families are asked to settle a long-running feud.

Although the couples change from book to book, the series works best as a friendly web of familiar faces. James and Cecelia remain part of the background, and their work restoring or visiting estates gives other characters a reason to cross paths. Country houses, coastal ruins, London gatherings, village quarrels, and neglected family histories all matter to the plots.

These are romances with a soft mystery element rather than grim suspense.
