Series background & context

The Coxwells is a connected contemporary romance series by Claire Cross, the pen name of Deborah Cooke. The first four books move through the extended Coxwell family, giving a different couple the center of the story each time. The books share characters, family history, and plenty of opinions from relatives, but each romance has its own complete emotional arc.

The series begins with Third Time Lucky. Philippa Coxwell has built a garden design business instead of following the family path into law. Then Nick Sullivan, the man she once wanted and thought she had left behind, turns up after fifteen years and needs help. Their reunion mixes old feelings with a murder accusation, giving the first book a little mystery alongside its romantic comedy energy.

In Double Trouble, the focus shifts to Maralys and James. When Maralys's seemingly perfect twin disappears and leaves her husband and children in chaos, Maralys is drawn into a household she never expected to help hold together. She and James have history, resentment, and very different ideas about what comes next. It is a family crisis first, with a wary romance growing out of the wreckage.

The third novel, One More Time, looks at an established marriage instead of a new one. Matt and Leslie Coxwell have drifted so far apart that Matt leaves, forcing both of them to confront what has gone quiet between them. Work pressure, a teenage daughter, a difficult family situation, and an ex-fiancée make an already hard conversation even harder.

Then comes Zach Coxwell, the family's commitment-shy wild card, in All or Nothing. Jen Maitland needs a fake date to survive Thanksgiving and stop her mother's matchmaking plans. Zach seems like the ideal choice, right up until the act starts to feel real. The book leans into awkward family gatherings, jokes, and two people trying to protect themselves from getting hurt.

Family is the thread that holds everything together. The Coxwells show up in one another's lives, sometimes helpfully and sometimes not, as careers change, relationships break down, and new households take shape. The stories are set in and around Rosemount, where the family home, Grey Gables, remains an important gathering place.

Christmas with the Coxwells returns to the family twelve years after All or Nothing. It is a holiday short story designed as a catch-up, with babies, new jobs, changed relationships, and familiar faces gathered back into the same orbit. Start with Third Time Lucky for the smoothest introduction, then read in order to get the full effect of the family's ongoing story.
