Author bio

Claire Cross is one of the pen names used by Canadian romance writer Deborah Cooke. She has been publishing fiction since 1992 and has written more than 120 novels and novellas across romance, fantasy, paranormal fiction, urban fantasy, time travel, and young adult stories.

The Claire Cross name is where Cooke has explored romantic comedy and time travel romance. It is also the name on the Coxwell books, a connected set of contemporary romances built around family ties, second chances, work troubles, and the messy ways people find their way back to each other.

Cooke's interest in history runs through much of her work. She has an honors degree in history with a focus on medieval studies, and has said she enjoys medieval vernacular literature, fairy tales, and fantasy. Those interests helped shape the historical and fantasy romances she writes as Claire Delacroix.

Under the Claire Cross name, Third Time Lucky opens the Coxwell series with Philippa Coxwell and Nick Sullivan, a former crush who returns carrying serious trouble. Double Trouble shifts to Maralys, a sharp-tongued twin facing a family crisis, while One More Time follows Matt and Leslie Coxwell as their marriage hits a painful standstill. All or Nothing brings in Zach Coxwell and Jen Maitland for a fake-date romance with a Thanksgiving deadline.

These books keep the stakes personal. A career can wobble, a family can make demands, an old betrayal can resurface, and a relationship can need more honesty than either person is ready to give.

She has also written a lighter holiday fantasy, A Berry Merry Christmas, about a North Pole elf sent to help a grieving family. It shows another side of the Claire Cross byline, warm, playful, and willing to add a little magic to a love story.

Cooke's other pen name, Claire Delacroix, is associated with historical and fantasy romance. Her medieval romance The Beauty became her first title to reach the New York Times bestseller list. Writing as Deborah Cooke, she has also created contemporary and paranormal romances, including dragon-centered stories.

Her career has included a 2009 writer-in-residence post at the Toronto Public Library, the library's first residency focused on romance. In 2012, she received the Romance Writers of America PRO Mentor of the Year Award.

She lives in Canada with her husband. Away from the page, her interests include knitting, sewing, and hunting for vintage patterns.

That love of making things by hand feels like a good fit for an author who has built several very different fictional worlds.
