The Cosmic Warrior Books in Order

The Cosmic Warrior is a compact pulp adventure series built on a very old and very reliable engine: drop an outsider onto an alien world, give him a prophecy-sized problem, and see if he can survive long enough to become the champion everyone needs.

The outsider here is Captain Daniel Sawyer, a Blue Angels pilot who gets drawn into the fate of the Jolan world. On Jolan, two species have shared control for centuries, settling disputes through ritual combat in the arena. That setup gives the series a sword-and-planet feel even though it is clearly science fiction. The technology matters, but the emotional shape is heroic quest.

The fights are personal because the politics are personal.

In the first book, Sawyer is chosen as the champion in a prophecy the villainous Phobos side would very much prefer to stop. That means he is not entering a neutral tournament. He is stepping into a balance of power that has already started to crack. The appeal is watching a regular human pilot try to navigate a culture, a myth, and a battlefield that were not built for him.

The second book makes that pressure more direct. Treaties break down, war expands, and Sawyer is forced to answer the call again, this time against a purpose-built anti-champion and a much larger military threat. That shift keeps the series from feeling like a one-off arena tale. The world has consequences, and they spread fast.

Expect bright colors, clear villains, dangerous trials, and a straight-ahead heroic tone. The Cosmic Warrior is less interested in gray bureaucracy than some of Del Arroz's other science fiction. It wants motion, courage, and planetary stakes. Sometimes that is exactly the right speed.
