The Companion Books in Order

The Companion is a six-book fantasy romance series set in Syrasan, a medieval-style kingdom where women called Companions are trained to serve royal men. They are admired for their beauty and education, but the arrangement is built on ownership, not choice. That premise gives the series its central tension from the first pages: love has to grow inside a system designed to deny women control over their own lives.

The story begins with The Royal Companion, when sixteen-year-old Aldara is sold and sent to Archdale Castle to become the Companion of Prince Tyron. Tyron has just returned from war and wants nothing to do with the tradition imposed on him. Aldara, meanwhile, has been taken from her family and given no say in her future. Their connection is immediate, but the danger around it is just as important as the romance.

The first three novels, The Royal Companion, The Common Girl, and The Majestic Impostor, tell Aldara and Tyron's complete arc. Their relationship is tested by separation, shifting power within the royal family, war, and the threat posed by Zoelin. The series does not treat the castle as a safe fairy-tale place. It is full of watchful people, old rules, and consequences that reach far beyond one couple.

Love is never separate from politics here.

The later books widen the lens while staying in the same world. In The King's Obsession, Petra, a Companion mentor living under a cruel king's control, crosses paths with Sir Leksi, a knight ordered to protect her. The Captain's Prize follows Astra, a long-serving Companion whose future changes after the king stakes her in a card game, and Dion, a Galen army captain troubled by the entire Companion system.

The final novel, The Rebel's Queen, centers on Queen Cora and Brom, the leader of the Nydoen mountain rebels. A disputed crown, changing loyalties, and the prospect of war put both their survival and their relationship under pressure. By then, the series has moved from Aldara's arrival at court to a broader look at who gets to rule, who gets protected, and what people will risk for a different future.

Expect high emotional stakes, court intrigue, military conflict, and romances that develop under difficult circumstances. The books deal with abuse, sexual violence, death, and other dark material, especially in the early Aldara and Tyron story and Petra's book. Read in publication order for the clearest experience, since the political situation and returning characters build from one novel to the next.
