Series background & context
The Alpha Squad books are action-heavy romantic suspense stories built around a tactical team in Metro City. Hostage negotiators, detectives, snipers, and security pros move through bank standoffs, witness trouble, and jungle assignments where one bad decision can wreck everything.
Terms of Surrender introduces the emotional shape of the series. Jolie Conrad and Dace Recker are crisis negotiators with a painful shared past, and Brant drops them straight into a revenge-fueled situation that makes professional control almost impossible. The book is about danger, but it is also about grief that has never really settled.
Terms of Engagement shifts to a woman on the run. Lindsay Bradford has spent years changing identities to stay ahead of a killer, and a hostage crisis blows her cover wide open. That mix of public danger and private fear is very much the Alpha Squad lane. Brant likes competent people under pressure, and this series gives her plenty of room to work with that.
Nobody in this series gets the easy version of love.
Terms of Attraction broadens the scope even more. Ava Carter and Cael McCabe head into a South American jungle, bringing bodyguard work, military skills, and revenge motives into the picture. Even with the change in setting, the core stays the same, highly capable people trying to do the job while their feelings make the mission messier.
What ties the books together is the team environment. These are people used to pressure, training, and split-second decisions, so the romance is always happening alongside a real operation. If you like tactical suspense with strong chemistry and emotionally bruised leads, Alpha Squad is a very good fit. Read in order for the clearest sense of the squad around the edges.
