Series background & context

The Charmed and Dangerous books are compact romantic suspense stories about people carrying dangerous secrets. They are linked more by mood than by one continuing plot, but the atmosphere is consistent: city danger, people on edge, and characters who have every reason not to trust each other.

In Hard to Handle, detective Gabe Connally is drawn to Meghan Patterson while trying to untangle a case that puts her family at risk. Her nephew may be a key witness, and Meghan is hiding more than she can safely explain. That balance of vulnerability and grit runs through the whole series.

Hard to Resist brings in District Attorney AJ Jacobs and crime reporter Dare McKay, two people with history and unfinished business. The threat comes from the criminal case AJ is building, but the emotional tension comes from old love that never really went away. Brant is very good at that mix, professional pressure on the outside, personal fallout on the inside.

Brant likes people who are cornered, and still refuse to quit.

Hard to Tame may be the clearest example. Sara Parker is living under an assumed name after witnessing a murder, and Nick Doucet has to find her and earn the trust that fear has burned out of her. The book leans into witness-on-the-run tension, false identities, and the cost of asking someone to believe you again.

Taken together, this series sits right in Brant's early sweet spot. The pace is brisk, the threats are personal, and the romance grows out of pressure rather than grand speeches. If you like protective heroes, heroines with something real to lose, and suspense that stays focused on trust, Charmed and Dangerous delivers exactly that.
