Author bio
Terri Brisbin was born in Camden, New Jersey, and has spent much of her life in southern New Jersey. Long before romance writing became her career, she trained and worked as a dental hygienist, a job she has balanced alongside family life and a very large body of fiction.
She began writing romance in 1995, then sold her first book a few years later. Her debut novel, A Love Through Time, arrived in 1998 and set out a path she has returned to often: Scotland, history, complicated loyalties, and love stories that have to survive real pressure.
The Highlands are a favorite destination, on and off the page.
Brisbin has written more than fifty historical, paranormal, and fantasy romances, along with novellas and short stories. Her work has reached readers in many countries and languages, and she has been a three-time RITA finalist. The numbers matter, but they also point to something simple: she has kept building connected worlds for readers who like romance with a strong sense of place.
Her Scottish books range from straight historical romances to stories with time travel, ancient magic, and mythology. Taming the Highlander begins the long-running Clan MacLerie sequence, where clan duty, old feuds, and arranged marriages repeatedly put couples at odds. Stolen by the Highlander opens another Highland set, this one centered on the dangerous rivalry between the Cameron and Mackintosh clans.
Then there is the magic.
In the MacKendimen books, including A Love Through Time, the past is not safely sealed away. Characters travel between modern life and medieval Scotland, and the people left behind must live with the results. The Stone Circles novels, beginning with Rising Fire, lean further into fantasy, following descendants of ancient gods as they face a threat that reaches across Scotland, Orkney, England, and Ireland.
Brisbin also writes medieval and Regency-set romances outside Scotland. The Dumont books follow a family navigating love and danger amid English and continental politics. The Knights of Brittany series brings together warriors, noblewomen, and uneasy marriages in the aftermath of conquest. Her stories often start with practical problems, a bargain, a duty, a missing past, a disputed inheritance, then let the emotional stakes grow from there.
The couples don't get an easy route to trust.
That is part of the appeal. Her heroines are frequently healers, widows, women in disguise, reluctant brides, or women protecting people they love. Her heroes may be warriors, lairds, knights, or men carrying old guilt, but the relationship has to be earned. Family obligations and local politics do not disappear just because two people fall in love.
Away from the page, Brisbin has described herself as a wife, mother of three, grandmother, and dental hygienist. She continues to write from southern New Jersey, while still finding reasons to plan another trip to Scotland. It is an appropriately Brisbin-like mix: everyday work, family, research, and a mind clearly never far from the next Highland keep, stormy island, or impossible marriage bargain.
