Author bio
Tammy L Grace grew up in Fallon, in rural northern Nevada, and she still lives in her hometown today. Long before she started publishing novels, books were already a big part of her life. Reading was her first habit, her first escape, and, eventually, the thing that pulled her back to writing.
She was a reader first.
As a child, one of the books that stayed with her was Little Women. Like plenty of young readers, she connected with Jo March and the idea that a girl could make a life out of stories. In middle school, an English teacher helped push that feeling into something more practical. Grace started writing creatively and even contributed to her local newspaper, covering school events and athletics.
Then life moved in a different direction. She went on to earn an MBA and spent years working in local and state government. By her own telling, most of the writing she did in that part of her career was technical and businesslike, not the kind of writing that lets characters wander onto the page and refuse to leave.
Retirement changed that.
Once she finally had room to write the stories she had been carrying for years, she got to work. Her debut novel, Finding Home, arrived in 2014 and introduced readers to the Hometown Harbor books, set around Friday Harbor in the Pacific Northwest. Those novels, including Home Blooms and A Promise of Home, helped define the kind of fiction many readers now associate with her: women in midlife, small communities, old hurts, loyal friends, and the slow, believable hope of starting over.
Dogs show up everywhere for a reason.
Grace is openly fond of them, and that love runs through just about all of her work. In the Cooper Harrington mysteries, books like Killer Music, Deadly Connection, and Dead Wrong pair murder investigations with Nashville charm, a little humor, and Gus, the golden retriever who is every bit as memorable as the human cast. In her women's fiction, dogs often work as companions, icebreakers, and quiet emotional anchors, the kind of presence that helps lonely people step back into life.
She has also branched out in a few clear directions without losing that emotional core. The Glass Beach Cottage books lean into grief, healing, and community on the Washington coast. The Sisters of the Heart novels bring together foster sisters returning to Lavender Valley Farm after years apart. Her holiday stories, including Christmas in Snow Valley and A Season for Hope, keep the focus on hope, family, second chances, and the comfort of a Christmas setting.
She also writes as Casey Wilson. Under that name, she published two dog-centered novels, A Dog's Hope and A Dog's Chance, stories built around the bond between people and their dogs and the way rescue can go both ways.
Today, Grace is a USA Today bestselling author, but the personal details around the work still feel grounded. She has said that books have always been constant companions. When she is not writing, she spends time with family and friends, reads for pleasure, walks, and happily admits to an attachment to chocolate. She and her husband have one grown son, and their spoiled golden retriever has clearly earned a permanent place in the family, and in the books too.
