Series background & context
Steele Ops is April Hunt's romantic suspense series about a private security firm built around the Steele family. The books combine investigations, military experience, law enforcement connections, and romances that become more complicated when the danger turns personal. Washington, D.C., is an important starting point, but the cases can pull the team far beyond the city.
The series begins with Deadly Obsession. Former Army Ranger Knox Steele returns to Washington to help his brothers establish Steele Ops, only to find himself working alongside Zoey Wright, his best friend's younger sister and his longtime weakness. Zoey has pushed past a childhood marked by hospital stays to become a CSI agent. When a serial killer's victims begin to point toward her, Knox has every reason to stay close.
Lethal Redemption shifts the focus to FBI profiler Grace Steele and Cade Wright, the man who left her behind years earlier. Grace escaped the Order of the New Dawn as a child and has spent years trying to put that experience behind her. When Steele Ops needs her help getting a young woman out of the cult, Grace and Cade must pose as an engaged couple and go back toward the world that traumatized her.
In Fatal Deception, Roman Steele works with infectious-disease specialist Dr. Isabel Santiago after criminals steal a dangerous virus from her laboratory. The threat is bigger than one person's safety, and the team has to track down those responsible before the stolen research can be used as a weapon. Roman and Isabel have little room for uncertainty when the stakes keep widening.
Each book puts a different couple at the heart of a high-pressure operation. The security work brings chases, surveillance, extraction plans, and criminal investigations, while the romances make the risks matter on a personal level. The emotional tension often comes from history between the leads, whether that history involves family, betrayal, unspoken attraction, or painful survival.
Start with Deadly Obsession to meet the firm and the Steele family from the beginning. The central romance changes from book to book, but the relationships, team dynamics, and past events carry forward.
