Series background & context
The Spider Heist books follow Blair Morgan, once the FBI’s top covert entry specialist, through the kind of high stakes robberies she used to help investigate. It is a heist series with military style precision in the planning and plenty of chaos when things go wrong.
At the start Blair’s life has fallen apart. After a corrupt supervisor uses her as a scapegoat, she loses her badge, her reputation, and nine months of freedom. By the time we meet her she is pouring coffee in a strip mall cafe, trying to forget everything she trained for. A chance date, a mysterious invitation, and a violent bank job pull her into contact with a crew of thieves who are obviously far more skilled than the average stickup artists.
That crew, soon known as the Sky Thieves, specializes in audacious operations. One book has them going after the Sierra Diamond, a massive stone locked inside a new high rise vault called the Sky Safe. Another sends them from Los Angeles to Washington, DC, and New York as they compete with rival criminals and a secretive broker to recover evidence that could destroy Blair’s former FBI boss.
Over the series the jobs get bigger and more personal. Blair is not just chasing paydays, she is trying to clear her name and bring down the people who ruined her career. The Sky Thieves break into secure skyscrapers, airports, and mansions, sometimes while the authorities think they are still in prison. By the time they face the mentor behind their worst enemy and the powerful figures who frame them for new crimes, every heist doubles as a survival plan.
Think more cat and mouse than cops and robbers.
Kasper leans into the fun parts of the genre, from gear talk to social engineering and elaborate misdirection, but he grounds it with the kind of procedural detail you would expect from someone who knows how real investigations work. The tone is lighter than his war stories, with more banter and found family moments, yet the stakes remain serious. Being caught means prison or worse.
If you like stories where a skilled crew takes on impossible targets, balances loyalty against self interest, and outsmarts both criminals and law enforcement, the Spider Heist series is meant to be read in order starting with The Spider Heist. Each book offers a complete caper while pushing a larger story about corruption, revenge, and what it means to rebuild a life on the wrong side of the law.
