Series background & context

The Sinner and Saint duet takes Lucy Score’s knack for banter and emotion and drops it into a glossier, more dangerous world. Instead of small town gossip, these books revolve around red carpets, private security firms, and the very real threats that come with fame. At the center are Hollywood actress Waverly Sinner and Xavier Saint, the ex military bodyguard who is absolutely not supposed to fall for his client.

Crossing the Line opens with Waverly on the brink of adulthood, exhausted by being tabloid fodder and desperate for a taste of normal college life. A frightening encounter with an obsessed fan convinces her famous parents to hire Invictus Security, and Xavier draws the short straw. He expects a spoiled celebrity and instead finds a smart, lonely young woman who pushes back against every restriction even as the danger around her escalates.

Guarding Waverly means shadowing her through film sets, press events, and stolen moments of freedom, which makes keeping his distance harder than Xavier planned. The line between professional concern and something more keeps blurring, all while a stalker grows bolder. The first book delivers a full thriller plot but leaves their relationship on a painful, unresolved note that sets up the second half of their story.

In Breaking the Rules several years have passed. Waverly has taken control of her career and, in a twist, now uses her acting skills for undercover work that lets her feel useful instead of decorative. When an operation ends with a gunshot wound, a missing partner, and a cover story that could tank her reputation, Xavier storms back into her life determined to help whether she wants him there or not.

The sequel leans into second chance romance as much as it does suspense. Waverly has to decide whether she can trust the man who once broke her heart, and Xavier has to confront the ways his earlier protection crossed lines. Together they chase down conspirators, clear her name, and try to build something new out of a history full of both tenderness and hurt. It is a duology for readers who like their bodyguard trope extra complicated and do not mind a little adrenaline with their happy ending.
