The Price of Scandal

by Lucy Score

2019

Biotech CEO Emily Stanton’s spotless image implodes after a very public incident, putting a billion dollar deal at risk. Reputation fixer Derek Price moves into her life to stage manage the damage, but their fake narrative and off limits attraction become dangerously real.

Series background & context

Bluewater Billionaires is a shared world built around four self made tech and business moguls who also happen to be best friends and neighbors in a luxury Florida community. Each book is written by a different author and focuses on one woman’s love story while weaving through the same high rise condos, rooftop pools, and group chats. Lucy Score kicks off the universe with The Price of Scandal.

Her heroine, Emily Stanton, is a brilliant CEO whose personal life is not nearly as controlled as her company’s balance sheets. A very public misunderstanding with law enforcement and the paparazzi threatens a billion dollar deal and gives her board an excuse to question whether she should still be in charge. Emily is under crushing pressure from family and investors who would prefer her to be ornamental instead of powerful.

Enter Derek Price, a charismatic fixer whose job is to polish the images of the rich and infamous. He moves into Emily’s world with a plan that involves staged dates, carefully crafted press, and a crash course in how to look less like a scandal waiting to happen. What he does not plan on is falling for the sharp, stubborn woman behind the headlines, or realizing that some of her biggest problems come from people who are supposed to be on her side.

The tone of the book is fizzy and fun, full of fast banter, steamy scenes, and outrageous situations, but it also takes seriously the weight Emily carries as a woman running a massive company under constant scrutiny. Readers get a front row seat to late night strategy sessions, family showdowns, and friendship shenanigans with the other Bluewater women. Those friends later headline their own stories, creating a web of overlapping timelines and cameos.

If you like billionaire romance that lets the heroine keep the corner office and the yacht, this is the corner of Lucy Score’s backlist to explore. You can read The Price of Scandal on its own for a complete story, or continue through the other Bluewater Billionaires novels to watch the friend group collect their own happily ever afters.
