He takes her captive intending to demand a ransom, but the journey north changes both the plan and the people involved.

The next full novel, Highlander's Redemption, follows Robert's brother Garrick, an expert archer and mercenary working for Robert the Bruce. Garrick's covert mission brings him into contact with Jossalyn Warren, a healer desperate to escape her cruel brother. Their relationship ties the Sinclairs even more tightly to the enemy they have been fighting, raising the cost of every choice.

The short novella Highlander's Return centers on Burke Sinclair and Meredith Sutherland. Their first love was destroyed by clan hostility, and after years apart, they have a chance to find out whether the past still has power over them. It fits between the second and third novels and adds context for the wider family network.

The trilogy concludes with Highlander's Reckoning. Daniel Sinclair is ordered to secure a Lowland holding for King Robert and marry Rona Kennedy, the castle keeper's daughter, to strengthen an alliance. Rona has her own fiercely guarded interests, including an illegal love of falconry. As the Sinclairs' enemy moves toward open conflict, their marriage becomes part of a much larger fight.
