In Rough Justice, the murder of fellow veteran Doug, the man who once saved her life, forces her back into investigation. In An Unlikely Saviour, she is pulled into the disappearance of a street kid after two children witness a body dumped in the Thames.

A lot of the series' power comes from who gets taken seriously and who does not. Shrap listens to rough sleepers, forgotten veterans, kids on the margins, and people the system overlooks. That gives her access the police do not have, but it also leaves her exposed. She is usually working without safety, status, or backup, which makes every step feel risky.
