Series background & context

Kenny Soward's Shockwaves is a disaster-survival series about powerful earthquakes and the way their effects spread far beyond the first collapsed building. The opening novel, Shattered Ground, begins with destruction in Seattle and follows the shock of a disaster that rapidly disrupts life in Colorado and elsewhere.

Jonah Kessler is caught in the ruins of Seattle, where falling debris, damaged streets, and desperate survivors stand between him and a return to his family. In Greeley, Colorado, his wife Evie is trying to protect their children and the small mini-mart she has worked to build. The family faces the same catastrophe from very different places.

The ground is only the beginning.

The story also follows dangers created by the breakdown around them. Supply problems, panic, and opportunistic violence spread as people realize the earthquakes are not a brief emergency. An escaped prisoner named Soren adds another personal threat, especially for Talia, whose past connection to him makes the wider disaster even more dangerous.

Shattered Ground introduces the Kessler family and the first wave of destruction. Fault Lines, Buried Deep, and Ruin Rising continue the story as the survivors face the longer consequences of the quakes, damaged communities, and threats that do not disappear once the shaking stops.

This is a grounded, multi-viewpoint post-apocalyptic thriller. It uses a large natural disaster to test family loyalty, local resilience, and the fragile routines that most people depend on without noticing. The danger comes from the earth, but also from broken supply chains, broken trust, and people pushed toward desperate choices.

Start with Shattered Ground and read in order. The series follows one expanding crisis, and the personal stakes grow as Jonah fights to reunite with Evie and their children.
