Secrets & Sin Books in Order

Secrets & Sin moves Linsey Hall's paranormal romance into New Orleans, and the city is doing real work here. This is not just a generic urban fantasy backdrop with a famous name attached. The haunted atmosphere, old buildings, hidden magic, and cemetery level sense of history all fit the series perfectly. From the beginning, the books feel moodier and more obsessive than Hall's lighter work.

The trilogy follows Cora, who inherits a haunted bookstore and thinks she is stepping into a dream life. Instead, she gets a dangerous new home, a demon who acts like he owns both the shop and her, and the growing problem of her own magic. Cora can kill with a touch, and that is not the kind of secret you can casually bring into a new city. It gives the whole series a good emotional center. She is not only dealing with desire and supernatural politics. She is also trying to live with what her own hands can do.

Talan is a problem from the start.

He is the tortured, obsessed hero at the center of the romance, and the books do not pretend he is easy or safe. That is part of the series appeal. The attraction is intense, but so is the distrust. Cora cannot just melt because the demon is handsome. She has too much to lose, and he has too much darkness around him to be taken at face value.

As the trilogy continues, the focus widens from the bookstore and the immediate relationship into deeper city secrets, buried magic, and the larger cost of Cora's power. Hall keeps the books moving, but the tone stays a little darker than in Charming Cove or some of the earlier Dragon's Gift books. This is still a fantasy romance series, but it likes obsession, haunted spaces, and emotionally risky choices.

The New Orleans setting also helps the series feel distinct inside Hall's backlist. You still get her usual pace and readable style, yet the atmosphere is more gothic and sensual. Bookstores, ghosts, demons, curses, and cemetery imagery all fit the city naturally.

Start with City of Night and read straight through. This trilogy works best as one escalating story, with Cora and Talan's bond, the city's magic, and the danger around them tightening together from book to book.
