Author bio
Veronica Douglas is the pen name of a writing duo who mix paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and a real love of old places. They describe themselves as a couple who love archaeology, travel, cats, and writing stories together, and that combination tells you a lot about the feel of their books.
They did not come to fiction from a standard writing-school path.
Before turning to novels, they spent years doing the slow, exacting kind of research that comes with academic archaeology. That background shows up all over their work. Even when the story is racing through a magical Chicago alley or a cursed castle, there is usually an old ruin, a buried secret, a legend, or a piece of the past pushing the plot forward.
They like magic with dust on it.
Their fiction debut was Wicked Wish in 2021, the opening book in Dragon's Gift: The Storm. That series introduces Neve and Damian Malek, and it already has the mix that would become the Veronica Douglas signature: hidden powers, dangerous attraction, fast-moving action, and supernatural trouble that reaches far beyond one case. The Storm books also lean hard into genie lore, lost cities, and old mysteries, which makes them a neat meeting point between archaeology-minded adventure and romance.
From there they widened the world with Wolf Marked and the Magic Side: Wolf Bound books, which shift the focus to Savannah Caine, werewolf politics, and the hidden magical side of Chicago. Then came the darker Ruthless Gods: Wolf God trilogy, beginning with Wolf God, where Samantha and Cadean's story pushes into a more mythic fantasy landscape. Those later books show another side of the duo. They can write pack drama, fate-driven romance, and bigger fantasy stakes just as comfortably as street-level paranormal suspense.
They have also moved easily into romantasy. Reign of Cinders and Glass reworks Cinderella in a kingdom ruled by vampires, while Kingdom of Roses and Flame heads into Beauty and the Beast territory with curses, danger, and a dragon king. That turn makes sense when you look at the rest of their catalog. Their books were always interested in folklore, bargains, monsters, and the old shapes stories keep returning to.
The archaeology thread never really leaves. Sometimes it is explicit, as in the genie legends, ancient cities, and ruined temples of the Storm books. Sometimes it is more of a mood, the sense that the present is sitting right on top of something older and stranger. It also explains why the worlds feel built rather than improvised. Even the most romantic books usually have some buried history underneath the sparks.
Readers who click with Veronica Douglas usually seem to like the same things: clear stakes, strong forward motion, capable heroines, and dangerous heroes who have to earn their way toward trust. They are not especially interested in passive leads or love stories that arrive fully sorted out. Their couples tend to argue, bargain, hide things, rescue each other badly, and then go right back to the arguing.
These days, they still present themselves in simple terms: a couple who love archaeology, travel, cats, and telling stories together. It is a tidy summary of the whole project. The books may be full of demons, djinn, wolves, vampires, and dark princes, but underneath all that spectacle is the work of two people who clearly enjoy history, adventure, and a good slow-burn romance.
