Author bio

Linsey Hall spent years working as an archaeologist before she became a full-time novelist. She studied shipwrecks in places that ranged from tropical water to muddy rivers, and that mix of fieldwork, history, and adventure still shows up all over her fiction.

She has said that, as a kid, she loved history, boats, Indiana Jones, and Lara Croft. That combination makes a lot of sense once you read her books. Even when she is writing about vampires, fae kings, or witches with wildly unreliable powers, there is often an old secret, a lost object, or a piece of history sitting just under the action.

The move from archaeology to fiction was not a total break.

After about a decade of fieldwork and research, she started writing the kind of adventure stories she wanted to read. She has joked that real archaeology comes with a lot fewer booby traps than people expect, but the habit of asking how the past shapes the present never left her. It became part of the engine of her fantasy worlds.

You can see that clearly in Ancient Magic and the wider Dragon's Gift universe. Those books mix hidden magical societies, demon fights, artifact hunts, and heroines who are carrying more power than is safe. Readers who like fast-moving urban fantasy often start there, especially with Cass, Del, and Nix, whose linked series help build the wider world a piece at a time.

But Hall does not stay in one lane for long.

Once Bitten opens the Shadow Guild books in a secret magical city inside London, with guild politics, vampires, and a heroine dropped into trouble before she has time to catch up. A Forest of Stars shifts into fae court fantasy, with a human heroine trapped in a deadly royal competition. The Modern Girl's Guide to Magic shows another side of her work, lighter, funnier, and built around a magical village in Cornwall where the problems are still serious, even when the tone is breezier.

That range is a big part of why her backlist is so easy to browse. Some readers come to Hall for hidden cities and found family. Some want enemies to lovers tension, fated mates, or dangerous supernatural bargains. Some just want a book that moves fast and keeps the magic in the foreground. Her stories usually deliver on all three.

Across the series, a few things keep returning. Her heroines tend to be capable, stubborn, and funny under pressure. Her worlds like to tuck magic inside ordinary places, London alleys, Scottish landscapes, seaside villages, or city neighborhoods that look normal until they very much are not. She also likes the push and pull between old power and personal choice. Fate matters in these books, but so does refusing to let fate do all the deciding.

Hall has also written with Veronica Douglas, bringing that same taste for adventure and supernatural tension into books like Wicked Wish and the darker fairy-tale world of Reign of Cinders and Glass. The common thread is easy to spot. She likes motion, mystery, and magic, and she likes characters who have to earn trust, love, and power the hard way.

These days, she stays connected with readers through her online community and keeps writing urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and fantasy romance. The jump from shipwreck archaeology to magical fiction looks dramatic on paper, but in her books the link feels pretty natural. Both worlds run on curiosity, buried history, and the thrill of finding something strange just out of sight.
