Series background & context

Second Chance Bay is a set of connected romances in a remote coastal outback town. The McDougal family run fishing, charter and tourism businesses, and their working life on the water shapes the stories as much as the romances do.

The first book follows Jenni McDougal and Jake Jones, childhood sweethearts divided by class, history and the way the town remembers Jake's past. Later books turn to other members of the family and people drawn to the bay by work, safety or the hope of a fresh start.

The sea is always nearby.

The series has a warm small-town feel, but it does not ignore the pressures of remote life. Boats need maintaining, guests need looking after, businesses need saving, and help can be a long way off. Those practical concerns give each relationship something solid to push against.

Expect second chances, protective heroes, family loyalty and women who are trying to make secure lives for themselves. The romances are linked by the McDougals and their community, so earlier couples often remain part of the picture.

Read the books in order if you enjoy catching up with returning characters. Each one focuses on a new couple and can still offer a satisfying stand-alone romance.

It is an easygoing series for readers who like coast-and-country settings with a close-knit family at the centre.
