Scandals and Seductions Books in Order

Scandals and Seductions is a good name for this run of Cathy Maxwell books because every story starts with trouble. A bad bargain. A ruined plan. A neglected wife. A runaway bride. Someone thinks they can control the situation, and then love walks in and makes control impossible.

The series opens with A Seduction at Christmas, where danger and desire arrive almost at the same time for Fiona Lachlan and the Duke of Holburn. From there the books move through different kinds of romantic disasters. The Earl Claims His Wife turns an estranged marriage into a battle of wills. The Marriage Ring brings Grace and Richard together over blackmail, old family damage, and a search for the truth. His Christmas Pleasure returns to marriage-of-convenience territory, while The Seduction of Scandal throws a runaway bride into the hands of a legendary highwayman.

What links these books is not one long serial plot. It is mood. Maxwell writes these stories with more adventure than you might expect from a straight Regency romance. There are secrets, threats, missing loyalties, and characters who are often one bad turn away from disaster. Even so, the books never lose their emotional center. The real question is always whether two people can stop protecting themselves long enough to build something honest.

This is also a series full of strong contrasts. Rakes meet women who will not be dazzled. Dutiful wives decide they have had enough. Respectable men discover they are drawn to women society finds inconvenient. Maxwell clearly enjoys pairing polished titles with heroines who bring noise, warmth, and common sense into the room.

If you want historical romance with a little bite to it, this series delivers. The books are sensual, fast-moving, and often funny in the middle of the chaos. They work well as standalones, but read together they show one of Maxwell's favorite ideas again and again: scandal may start the story, but it is usually honesty that finishes it.
