One Dangerous Night shifts to Elise, whose hurt pride and impulsive escape leave her stranded with Christopher Fitzhugh-Cox, a missing duke living as a rake. A Touch of Steele returns to Gwendolyn, whose encounter with Beckett Steele pulls her into secrets and danger that go well beyond a good marriage.

The Irish background matters here. These women come into London as insiders and outsiders at the same time. They understand rank, but they also carry a family history that has made them practical. That mix gives the books a lively edge. The sisters want security, but they are not passive fortune-hunters. They are strategists.

The tone is warm, funny, and adventurous. Maxwell gets a lot of mileage out of sibling dynamics, bruised pride, and plans that keep slipping sideways. Beneath the wit, though, there is a real question about what women can build for themselves when money and respectability are both precarious.
