Rigel Carson Books in Order

Rigel Carson is the science-fiction pen name of Maggie Toussaint, a Georgia writer whose work also ranges through cozy mysteries, paranormal mysteries, and romantic suspense. Under the Carson name, she turns her attention to a near-future Earth where environmental pressures, hidden power, and unexpected visitors can put the whole planet at risk.

Before fiction became her full-time focus, Toussaint worked as an aquatic toxicologist on contract to the U.S. Army. She later worked as a freelance reporter. Those jobs gave her a close view of research, environmental questions, and the practical work behind scientific projects, details that feed naturally into the problems faced by her characters.

Her move toward writing began during recovery from a skiing injury. With the books around the house already read, she picked up some checkout-lane novels and decided she could try writing one herself.

It wasn't an instant career. Toussaint has said that her first completed manuscripts did not meet publication standards, so she joined writing organizations and kept learning. About ten years later, she signed a romance contract, followed three months later by a mystery contract. Science fiction came later, through the Rigel Carson byline.

The three Carson novels, G-1, G-2, and G-3, make up the Guardian of Earth series. They follow scientist Dr. Zeke Landry and his android partner, Forman, as crises involving water, invading aliens, and a strange threat from meteor showers push them into a bigger role. The books mix mystery plotting with future technology and ecological stakes.

The science matters, but the people have plenty to do too.

As Maggie Toussaint, she has written the Dreamwalker paranormal mysteries, the Cleopatra Jones mysteries, the Mossy Bog romantic suspense novels, and other standalone stories. She also writes paranormal mysteries as Valona Jones. Across those books, readers will find small-town secrets, unusual investigations, families under pressure, and characters who have to keep going when a normal day turns very strange.

The Carson books put a different spin on those interests. They imagine Earth about fifty years ahead, with resources running thin, governments under strain, and the truth about life beyond the planet no longer easy to dismiss. Zeke is not a soldier or a chosen action hero at the start. He is a scientist pulled into problems that are larger and more dangerous than his research.

Toussaint lives in coastal Georgia and remains active in mystery-writing organizations. Her current work continues to move between mystery, suspense, romance, and the paranormal, while the Rigel Carson name remains her home for the Guardian of Earth adventures.
