Ribbons West Books in Order

Ribbons West continues the Baldwin family story from Ribbons of Steel, but it belongs to a new generation. The earlier books follow Carolina Adams and James Baldwin as railroads begin to reshape the country. These books pick up with their children as the nation moves through Civil War and into the race to complete the transcontinental railroad.

The scale gets bigger fast.

Westward the Dream sends photographer Brenton Baldwin west with his sister Jordana and Irish newcomer Caitlan O'Connor. They are looking for family, opportunity, and a way to understand the vast country that eastern investors are eager to claim. The trip is exciting, but it is also dangerous. Weather, distance, politics, and violence all make the frontier feel less like a dream and more like a test.

In Separate Roads, the emotional threads tighten. Brenton promises to escort Caitlan to California, but that promise grows complicated when his own heart gets involved. At the same time, Victoria and Kiernan are trying to build a marriage under the strain of railroad work, long separations, and the constant risk that comes with blasting, grading, and pushing track through unforgiving land.

The final book, Ties That Bind, shifts much of the spotlight to Jordana. Restless and talented, she turns her writing into a chance to report on the great railroad race. To get close to the story, she disguises herself as a man and works as a spy for the Central Pacific, only to discover that Rich O'Brian, the man she has not been able to forget, is tied to the rival Union Pacific.

That is a very Pella setup: history outside, heart trouble inside.

The series mixes romance, adventure, and Christian family drama. It helps to read Ribbons of Steel first, because the parents' story gives the later books more weight. But readers who mainly want westward travel, railroad history, and post-Civil War stakes can begin with Westward the Dream and follow the trilogy in order.
