Return to Limbo City Books in Order

Return to Limbo City is exactly what it sounds like, a trip back to one of Angela Roquet's most entertaining settings. This spin-off picks up after the original Lana Harvey books and drops readers into a version of Limbo City that has changed in a big way. The old order has been cracked open, the Throne of Eternity is gone, and the political and social life of the afterworld is still trying to figure out what comes next.

That means the series carries some history with it.

Lana Harvey is still at the center, and that matters. She knows the city's rules, its shortcuts, its bars, and most of the people who can make her life miserable. She is still a reaper, still practical, still sarcastic, and still the kind of person who can get dragged into world-shaking trouble by saying yes to what sounds like one manageable job. The fun of this series is watching her deal with a new era in the same old city, where progress sounds nice in theory but gets messy the second real people, gods, and souls have to live with it.

In Life After Death, the mood is part reunion and part cleanup. Limbo City is moving forward after enormous upheaval, but forward is not the same thing as smooth. Roquet uses that setup well. The city feels older and stranger now, but also more open. There is room for fresh alliances, new headaches, and the kind of supernatural bureaucracy that can only exist in a place where every afterlife tradition bumps into the next.

Then Shadow of Death pushes the series outward with an Egyptian-flavored mission that sends Lana into a tomb-raiding mess involving Isis, a hidden talisman, archaeologists, and a cult with very bad intentions. That is a good snapshot of what these books do well. They blend mythology, caper energy, and personal stakes without losing the conversational, slightly exasperated voice that makes Lana easy to follow.

The real through-line in this series is change. The afterlife has been remade, at least partly, and nobody gets to stand completely still while that happens. Old institutions wobble. New freedoms create new problems. Even when Lana would prefer a quiet drink and a low-risk shift, the city keeps asking more of her.

If you already like the Lanaverse, this series feels like coming back to familiar company after enough time has passed for things to get interesting again. If you are brand new, it helps to know that these books are built as a return, not a true beginning. Either way, expect mythological trouble, afterlife politics, dark humor, and the constant sense that Limbo City is held together with equal parts magic, luck, and sheer stubbornness.
