Blood Vice Books in Order

Blood Vice takes Angela Roquet's love of monsters and dark humor and drops it into a police procedural. The result is an urban fantasy series with vampires, werewolves, supernatural law enforcement, and enough murder investigations to keep the whole thing moving fast. It is snarkier and more grounded than an epic fantasy, but it still has plenty of paranormal politics under the hood.

The series starts with a great hook in Blood Vice. Jenna is a St. Louis vice detective whose career goes spectacularly wrong when a raid leaves her dead, or close enough, and she wakes up in the morgue as a brand-new vampire. That would be enough trouble for one book, but Roquet does not stop there. Jenna also has to figure out who killed her partner, what the rules of her new undead life even are, and whether she is willing to work with a hidden supernatural system she did not know existed.

That hidden system gives the series its larger shape. House Lilith sits at the center of vampire power, and Blood Vice is the law-enforcement arm Jenna gets drawn toward. The books keep one foot in casework and one foot in court politics, training, and succession fights. In Blood and Thunder, Jenna is struggling to hang on to her old life while hunting a killer who targets new vampires like her. In Blood in the Water, vampire boot camp in Denver opens the door to bigger power struggles and the sort of hazing that makes ordinary police training look quaint.

Jenna is not doing any of this alone, which helps the series feel lived in. Her sister Laura, her werewolf ally Mandy, and the mysterious Roman Knight all push and complicate her choices in different ways. Roquet is good at giving Jenna support without making life easy. The friendships matter, the family tension matters, and the romantic pressure never completely drowns out the investigation side.

As the books go on, the scope widens. Later entries pull Jenna deeper into House Lilith's internal battles, including murder cases tied to inheritance and leadership. That makes Blood Vice more than a simple monster-of-the-week series. There are ongoing consequences. Every case opens another door into vampire society, and almost every new truth comes with a cost.

The tone is brisk and approachable. These are not slow, brooding vampire books where everyone stands around being immortal at each other. Jenna is practical, irritated, brave, and often overwhelmed. She has a job to do, even when her body, her loyalty, and her entire sense of normal are changing faster than she can manage.

If you like urban fantasy that mixes supernatural crime scenes with a bigger political arc, Blood Vice has a lot to offer. It is about learning the rules after you have already broken them, finding allies in a world you did not ask to enter, and discovering that being undead does not make life any less complicated.
