Author bio
Angela Roquet was born in Sedalia, Missouri, and raised in the American Midwest. She still lives in Missouri today with her husband, their son, and a Great Pyrenees, which feels pretty fitting for a writer whose stories are packed with monsters, mayhem, and a lot of personality.
She writes the kind of books where death can be funny, vampires can solve crimes, and a haunted house might be only the beginning of your problems.
Before writing full time, Roquet worked as a graphic designer. That background shows up all over her career. She designed her early covers herself, built much of her own visual brand, and has talked about learning design and web skills long before most authors were expected to think like publishers too.
Her path into publishing was practical rather than glamorous. She spent years reading about the business, tried the traditional route, had an agent for a while, and eventually decided that self-publishing made more sense for the kind of career she wanted. That hands-on streak fits her fiction. Even when the setup is wild, her characters still have jobs to do, people to argue with, and way too many messes to clean up.
A big early spark came from her love of gender role reversals. She wrote a short story about a female grim reaper, and that idea grew into Graveyard Shift, the first Lana Harvey novel. From there came Limbo City, her busy, strange afterlife metropolis where gods, demons, angels, and reapers all have to share space, usually with terrible results.
If you start with Graveyard Shift, you get Roquet at her most playful and mythology-heavy. Blood Vice shifts that same darkly funny energy into vampire crime fiction, following a St. Louis detective who wakes up undead and keeps working anyway. How to Sell a Haunted House goes lighter and more romantic, with a witchy realtor, ghosts, and a shifter town. Cursed Cogs shows another side of her work, a steampunk romance set in a broken version of Boston where time itself has gone badly wrong.
Across her books, Roquet keeps returning to the things she clearly loves: the afterlife, mythology, monsters, odd little communities, and people trying to stay themselves while the world tilts sideways. Her stories can get bloody, but they are not joyless. There is usually a joke nearby, or at least someone making bad choices with impressive confidence.
She has also stayed closely connected to other writers. Roquet is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association, and she has long been part of the critique group Four Horsemen of the Bookocalypse.
These days, she keeps writing from Missouri, still mixing spooky ideas with warmth, romance, and offbeat humor. If you like paranormal fantasy that is happy to get weird but still cares about the people underneath all the magic, Angela Roquet is easy to settle into.
